Chapter 23: Having lost the trail of his target, the Fixer from the Beggars' Sect hangs upside from a tree thinking of what to do next. His pet sable Lightning Flash then alerts him to the presence of Yongbi. Upon jumping down, the Fixer questions Yongbi if he had seen the Gold Bug. As Yongbi glares at him, the Fixer uses his art of mind-reading to read what Yongbi is thinking by staring into his eyes and is slightly intimidated when he reads how much money Yongbi's eyes are demanding. After throwing Yongbi a bag of at least thirty nyang, the Fixer extracts the Gold Bug's location with his mind-reading and rushes to the edge of the forest only to see the Gold Bug's ship leaving. The Fixer then angrily expresses that he will get him next time.
At a Murim Inn, groups of martial artists discusses the massacre at Geumcheonbo, the deaths of the Shadowless Ghost Trio, and the Golden Medallion. As two men are about to get into a fight, Yongbi enters the inn and the blood red glow of the Golden Medallion tied to his staff attracts the attention of everyone in the room including a certain monk.
