Chapter 87: In a flashback, the bandaged man recalls the day Yongbi became the Lord Commander of the Black Lancers. At the Black Lancers' camp, Jeok Seong and two other officers go over their plan to ambush a supply route, against the orders of their new Lord Commander (Yongbi) that will arrive soon. When Jeok Seong expresses doubt, another officer assures him that it is better for them to take action themselves instead of relying on a newcomer. It is also revealed in just two years, the Black Lancers have lost nine commanders with the previous two killed by the officers for their incompetence.

At night, the Black Lancers successfully slaughter the supply transport in Jail Gate Valley but it turns out to be a trap, and warriors of the horse tribes pour out of the supply crates. Reinforcements also arrive at the valley's entrance to block the Black Lancers off. As the Black Lancers prepare to fight to the end, a man flanks the warriors of the horse tribe and inflict savage losses to them, giving the remaining Black Lancers a second wind. After the battle, the man approaches the Black Lancers and introduces himself as Yongbi, the new Lord Commander.

In the Muhae Valley, the bandaged man broods over this memory, stating that Yongbi is no longer the man he once knew. Elsewhere, a massive tree falls onto Goo Hwi, who proceeds to express his annoyance of the earthquake.
